IDEMITSU GLOBAL NETWORK

HISTORY

1911

Idemitsu Shokai was founded in Moji, Fukuoka Prefecture. (Idemitsu Kosan Co, Ltd, was incorporated in 1940)

Sazo Idemitsu founded Idemitsu Shokai (Idemitsu & Co) and started the trading of petroleum based on the concept Respect for Human Beings

1957

Tokuyama Refinery completed. Commenced oil refining business

The Company completed construction of its first refinery at Tokuyama, which served as a base for the development of the Shurian industrial Zone in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

1964

Tokuyama Plant completed. Commenced businesses in petrochemical industry

Equipped with large scale ethylene manufacturing facilities, the Plant become the core of the Shunan Industrial Zone by taking advantage of the adjacent refinery.

1966

Idemitsu Maru, the first 200.000 ton tanker in the world, placed in service

The Company had imported crude oil utilizing its own tankers. The Idemitsu Maru served as a pipeline connecting oil-producing countries in the Middle East with Japan.

1988

Expanded coal business

Acquired an interest in the Ebenezer Coal Mine in Australia and started import of coal from the Company's own mine.

1992

Started crude oil production in the North Sea

Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS commenced oil production at the Snorre Field in the Norwegian North Sea.

2004

Idemitsu Kosan Co, Ltd merged with Idemitsu Petrochemical Co, Ltd

Promoted integrated production capabilities at refineries and petrochemical plants.

2006

Idemitsu listed on the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange

2011

Idemitsu marked the 100th anniversary of its founding

As we reached the milestone of the 100th anniversary, we reaffirm our resolve and commitment to remain true to our founding spirit of "respect for human beings" and to lead the way forward for future generations.

2013

Announcement of Final Invest Decision on Nghi Son Refinery/Petrochemical Complex at Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Construction is completed and has begun commercial operation as of November 2018
